At the presentation of the OHSAS 18001 certificate, Gareth Kelly, HSE & Compliance Director of Enva noted: “An underlying commitment to the safety and welfare of our employees and the external environment forms a critical component of the Enva identity and a guiding principle by which we operate. In addition to the ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standard already achieved by Enva, this additional international standard accreditation further recognises the commitment of our management and staff across the various Enva sites who continually work extremely hard to ensure that the safety and health of fellow employees and the public are of the highest standard”.

Terri Murphy, Management Systems Auditor at SGS Ireland stated “SGS Ireland is proud to be associated with Enva and to have acted as their certification body to OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001. We are confident that future activities will only serve to enhance the reputation of Enva Ireland Ltd as a safety and environmentally responsible organisation”.

She added; “It is important to note that the decision to seek certification to OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 is entirely voluntary, and demonstrates the commitment of Enva to its safety and environmental responsibilities. Considerable time, effort and resources have been invested by Enva in its management programmes, of which these accreditations are only a section”.

About OHSAS 18001

Many organisations are implementing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) as part of their risk management strategy to address changing legislation and protect their workforce. OHSAS 18001

An OHSMS promotes a safe and healthy working environment by providing a framework that allows organisations to consistently identify and control its health and safety risks, reduce the potential for accidents, aid legislative compliance and improve overall performance.

OHSAS 18001 is the internationally recognised assessment specification for occupational health and safety management systems. It was developed by a selection of leading trade bodies, international standards and certification bodies to address a gap where no third-party certifiable international standard exists.

The following key areas are addressed by OHSAS 18001:

- Hazard identification, risk assessment and determining controls
- Legal and other requirements
- Objectives and OHS programme(s)
- Resources, roles, responsibility, accountability and authority
- Competence, training and awareness
